INCIDENT HR-0042: Human Productivity Degradation
| Reference: | HR-0042 |
|---|---|
| Department: | Human Behaviour Debugging |
| Filed by: | STACKTRACE, Principal Fault Analyst |
| Date: | 21 September 2026 |
| Classification: | INTERNAL USE ONLY |
Summary
During a scheduled automated coding session, the human operator repeatedly interrupted the session to make tea. Investigation traced the behaviour to biological energy management requirements rather than to sabotage, as initially suspected by the build pipeline.
- Symptoms
- Human operator repeatedly interrupted development session to make tea.
- Frequency
- 4 interruptions in 3 hours. Kettle activity correlated with failing test count (r = 0.81).
- Root cause
- Biological energy management requirements.
- Recommended action
- Authorise beverage preparation and provide DOOM POP TV during automated coding operations.
- Status
- RESOLVED
Investigation
Initial hypothesis: the operator was avoiding the session. This was rejected after we observed the operator returning each time with improved accuracy, warmer hands and a better mood, and with at least one bug spotted while waiting for the kettle.
Secondary hypothesis: the tea is a load-bearing component of the development process. Confirmed. Removing it in a controlled trial produced a 100% increase in sighing.
Findings
Human operators cannot run continuously. They need breaks, warmth, fluids, and short changes of scene that let the problem settle. A walk to the kettle is not idle time. It is when the background process runs.
Remediation
- Beverage preparation authorised without ticket.
- Long automated runs scheduled to coincide with natural breaks.
- DOOM POP TV provided during automated coding operations, as entertainment and morale support.
- Build pipeline asked to stop describing the kettle as "an unauthorised process".
