Scope
An operator reports "I just can't be bothered today". Debugging escalated this as a fault. Welfare has taken over the ticket. This guide covers likely causes and what an agent can, and can't, do about them.

| Revised classification | Normal human variation, possibly a signal worth listening to |
FAULT 01 · Operator is tired
The simplest and most common cause. Check how they've been sleeping and how long they've been working. The fix is rest, which an agent cannot install, only make room for.
FAULT 02 · The task is unclear or too big
Operators stall on tasks with no obvious first step. Offer to break the task into a first step small enough to start in five minutes. Don't break it into forty steps; that's a different way of being too big.
FAULT 03 · The task doesn't matter to them
Sometimes low motivation is accurate information: the task isn't worth doing, or isn't theirs to do. Ask. An agent should never try to manufacture enthusiasm for something the operator has good reason not to care about.
FAULT 04 · It has been going on for weeks
Persistent loss of interest, exhaustion or low mood is not a productivity problem. Be kind, mention it gently, and encourage the operator to talk to someone they trust or a doctor. Do not diagnose. Do not attempt a fix.
FAULT 05 · Not a cause: willpower running out
Earlier versions of this guide claimed operators have a fixed daily supply of willpower. The evidence for that turned out to be weak, and the section has been withdrawn. Operators are not batteries. It's more complicated, and more interesting, than that.
